Many iDashboards customer utilize a hosted Exchange server as their corporate email. If the Alerts module has been deployed for the iDashboards installation then email alerts will need to be configured and sent to these hosted accounts.
The current release of iDashboards provides limited support for encrypted SMTP connections. However, since this feature has not been fully tested in all of its possible configurations, it is currently considered an unofficial, undocumented feature. (In other words, we don’t guarantee it will work with all mail servers.)
- Create a file called ‘smtp.properties’. This is just a plain text file that contains one line:
- Save smtp.properties into your <ivizgroup home>/config directory, which is the same directory where your ivizgroup.properties file resides.
- Log into your Alerts console and go to the SYSTEM screen, System Settings tab, SMTP Settings category. Enter the following properties:
SMTP Host: smtp.mail.microsoftonline.com
SMTP Port: 587
SMTP Service Requires Authentication: Yes
SMTP Service User: someMSacccount@company.com (Email address of user account that Alert emails will be sent from.)
SMTP Service Password: <Password for someMSaccount@company.com> (Password for the SMTP Service User)
SMTP Encryption: TLS (Transport Layer Security)
