How can I change the port on which the iDashboards server listens for browser requests?
The port on which the iDashboards listens for incoming requests is managed by the application server hosting iDashboards. If an application server other than the bundled version of Apache Tomcat is being used, consult the documentation for that application server to configure the port setting. If iDashboards is running in Apache Tomcat, the following steps can be used to change the port setting:
Locate the directory where Tomcat has been installed. If you are using the iDashboards Evaluation Version, this will be a directory called "server" beneath the iDashboards installation directory.
Use Notepad or another text editor to open the file conf/server.xml beneath the Tomcat install directory.
In conf/server.xml in Tomcat 6.0, search for "Connector port" for the HTTP protocol (not "tomcatThreadPool") to locate this bit of XML:
<Connector port="6500" redirectPort="8443" connectionTimeout="20000" protocol="HTTP/1.1"/>
In conf/server.xml in Tomcat 7.0, search for "Connector port" for the HTTP protocol (not "AJP") to locate this bit of XML:
In the examples above, port="6500" indicates that iDashboards is currently listening on port 6500 for requests from browsers. To use a different port, change the number within quotation marks to the new port number, save and close the server.xml file, and restart the Tomcat/iDashboards service. Be sure that the new port is not already in use by another service, for example if a web server such as IIS is installed on the same machine, it is very likely using port 80 for incoming requests.
