As part of the iDashboards v9.0 release, we are providing a new User Application experience via a desktop application. The iDashboards desktop application is an alternative method for accessing both the User and Admin Applications and is available for all iDashboards customers at no additional cost.
In 2003, iDashboards was originally developed to use the Adobe Flash Player plugin within a browser. Flash was the only way to both view and edit/build dashboards, and no other client installation was required.
In 2014, with the release of v8.5, iDashboards developed a new viewing-only experience for any browser type utilizing HTML5. Logic was also placed into the iDashboards platform to help auto-detect a user with a mobile browser to use the HTML5 interface.
In 2015, with the release of v9.0, iDashboards will include the first full-featured User Application that completely eliminates the need for a browser and no longer depends on the Adobe Flash Player plugin.
The introduction of iDashboards Desktop Application does not revoke the ability to use the Adobe Flash Player plugin or HTML5. Those who want to continue using a browser to access the iDashboards application do not have to change anything.
However, those who do want to discontinue the use of Adobe Flash Player can switch entirely to using the desktop application.
The iDashboards desktop application will function on a Windows PC (32 or 64 bit) or Mac OS X (32 or 64 bit).
iDashboards Desktop Application Use Case
• On a company network, there could be a policy to block certain web technologies like the Adobe Flash or the Adobe Flash Player plugin. The iDashboards Desktop Application can be used in such circumstances because it does not rely upon the Adobe Flash Player plugin.
• Users who enjoy the experience of the iDashboards Desktop Application over the browser experience may use the application based on personal preference.
